Chance or Destiny....Part 5 Continues.......

...........
My going with Seye was to see if the amount billed to him could be slashed not to fight or get violent.
Twins was determined to do us something very bad and his eyes were bloodshot, i knew he was high already and common sense was far from him so i did not even attempt to say a word.
'So wey the kishi?'...twins turned to Seye,he was bleeding already
'i could only raise 3k sir;........Seye tried to explain

'Gbosaaaaaaaa'

Seye spun around as the slap landed on his face...

'That mean say we go mark una be dt,una think say we de joke?'......another guy spoke
'Una go need to think this tin well o,we no need all this'....i tried to cajole them
'Shut up!!!who be dis sef?'.......Twins asked turning to one of the guys
'Na jojo be him name o,e be like say na Ogbe's boy man,i dey always see them together'.....he explained.
'ehn ehn ,na Ogbe's boy send u come abi'......

I noticed he hesitated, could sense he did not want Ogbe's boy trouble..
'No be so,i come on my own but at same time,e no go like dis kain tin o'.......i took advantage
'dem tell u say i fear person, kneel down before i shook u'...............Twins did not want to lose face in front of his boys .

Seye and i knelt down in the bush, waiting as they were using codes to discuss.
Back at the camp ,Makanaky had heard i was looking for him and he had learnt that i took the bush path beside the hostel with Seye so he decided to trace us.

Twins and his boys were backing the bush path while they were discussing,Seye and i were facing the path so we saw Makanaky first.
'Wetin dey happun for here'..........he shouted at the group.
'who dey ask?.......Twins and his boys quickly surrounded Makanaky...
'Una dey maaaaaaad? All protocols remain observed'.......Makanaky face changed to that of someone with authority.
'identify yourself'.....Twins challenged him

For the next 5 mins there was a staccato of codes being thrown back and forth.........The next spectacle we saw was all men in that bush began to salute Makanaky including Twins as realisation dawned on them who he was.
We were invariably witnessing a power change from Twins to Makanaky, this only meant one thing that from that day Makanaky would be the no 1 for the whole camp,Twins had been overthrown.........

'The orientation is to stop oppression and we should not be the oppressors;.......Makanaky was lecturing them.'Give them back their money and make i no hear this kain tin again....
They all nodded silently...
'Infact make all man purshe'....he commanded
Everyone took off except for Twins and 3 guys that would remain Makanaky bodyguards till we left the camp.
He turned towards us...
'Jojo,get up!.......he commanded.....
I sprung up and dragged Seye up......

As we made our way back to the camp,i knew i would thoroughly enjoy the rest of my stay as Makanaky had been revealed,

I was untouchable...........................I smiled.........

Chance or Destiny....Part 5 Continues.......

.......Seye was very paranoid partly because he had not gotten the money he was billed,he was so tensed that i began to blame myself why i wanted to get involved in what does not concern me.I knew i wanted to make up for the mess up of the other day during the football match but must i also put myself in danger?
I tried to calm him down but it was not working.
'omo u go need to cool down o,which time dem give you sef'.....i asked
'na lunch time o,i no no as i go do am o Jojo'..........he replied
'bobo take am easy o,i go see wetin i fit do,5k no be small money na '
'abi o,see me o and na ordinary greet i greet am o'.....

I made a mental note to bring up the subject with Makanaky because this was a clear case of misuse of power despite the fact that most of the confraternity preach against oppression yet they do the opposite.I was able to discharge Seye and assured him that  i would do something about it ,i went to the bathroom to clean up and later to mammy  market to get some breakfast.
On my way to mammy i checked Makanaky in the hostel but he was not in so i thought i would see him at our usual joint but after asking around for almost an hour nobody knew where he was.As soon  as i joined the poker team i completely forgot about him and concentrated on my game.
The game was time consuming and since i don't eat the camp food i did not even notice that the bugle had gone for lunch until i saw Seye standing beside me.
I had lost good money and was just recovering so i was not in the mood for anything else but as soon as Seye stood beside me,i won 5 straight hands and with that my money was back in my hands so i quickly got up from the game and without thinking i turned to Seye told him we should go and meet them.
I saw the group of guys afar,i held my breath and told Seye to follow behind.
'ok ,u go bring Van damme abi?'.....one of the guys addressed us sharply
'No be like dat bros,i just came to beg on his behalf'.....i spoke up
'he tell u wetin he do and by the way who u be Jojo?'.........one of the guys asked

I was surprised he knew me,sensing this as an advantage..
'Forget who i be guy,the guy do mistake and i want make una soft pedal for am,abeg'......i pressed on

I noticed that everybody's attention shifted i followed their gaze and saw Twins approaching.

'wetin una de follow them gist make dem lieeeeeeeee down'......twins commanded.

I did not feel the kick but i felt myself floating on the air and smack the ground with a thud ,i managed to turn and Seye was already being kicked on the ground.

We were very far from the camp and surrounded by forest,my initial thought was to stand up and run but i knew that will spell doom for Seye.
I jumped up quickly as i saw Twins remove a small dagger from his bag............

Things were getting worse than i thought...........

Chance or Destiny...Part 5 continues

...Everything was back to normal after the raid, some of our friends that we did not know their NYSC status were arrested  and dismissed from the camp but like they say, life went on.

Some groups of students attended Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma and there was this guy they called Twins,i later found out he was actually a twin. All thru the camp he always had like 5 to 6 boys following him i started wondering about him so i began to ask questions.Fortunately i knew a guy from his school called Ogbes boy.So one day i asked about him from Ogbe's boy.
'Twins na Eiye boy now infact him na number 1 for school and also for camp here'
'ehn ehn,i tot as much'
'the guy na lucky guy,i suppose don drop am but God dey him side ,i chase am enter bush'......he laughed.
'But his school is a state school now,how come he is number 1 in camp'...
'As there is no number 1 from any Federal University,na him go hold the power'.....he concluded
'ehn ehn'.....

Obviously,Ogbe's boy was from a rival confraternity....I thought about Makanaky and also respected the fact that he said he did not want to relate with his 'people'.It was a tough choice for him but one he had to take.
But events will change things later........

It was during the endurance walk day,all the platoons had lined up early to start the marathon walk,it was an all comers affair and no way to dodge and to make matters worse it started raining....The godogodo were happier for it ,they really wanted us to suffer.....

We had been walking all day, raising my head up,i saw Seye with in the midst of some boys,Seye was a quiet sort, apart from the other day that i messed up on the field,we had resolved the issue. As soon as the boys left his side,i quickly walked up to him.
'Seye,how far now?.....i saluted him
'Omo, i no fine o'...
'ehn ehn, wetin those boys dey find?'....i hit the question direct before he changes his mind.
Na long story, the koko  is that i have to drop 5k today or dem go brush me'.....
'Say wetin now?u collect money from them?
'Noooo, dem say why i claw twins?......
'Claw bawo?.....
'me i no even know wetin dem de call claw,we were playing ball and he made a good goal and i went to shake as usual, the next thing i know ,all these boys dey threaten me '......he  explained
'no worry now, when dem say make you come meet them?'....
'the bush behind the dinning hall after dinner'
'When u wan go make sure you inform me'
'You go follow me abi? those boys rough o,dem don punch me tire'
'no worry ,just call me'.......i ended the conversation and ran up to meet Makanaky and others.

We concluded the task for that day and i was too tired to discuss the issue with the rest of the boys.....

Seye was at my hostel as early as 5am...............

Chance or Destiny...Part 5 continues......

.......
After some few days i was back at my spot in mammy market as a humble man,i had to stomach all the yabis though........

I saw Abu d Soja,he was looking agitated.

'Abu,menini?.....i asked him what was wrong
'Jojo, walahi, tomorrow go hot'.....he answered still looking agitated.
'why ,wetin go happen?'....
'Pollow me'....

I followed him to a discreet corner....
'Abu wetin hapun na'
'Oga go do raid tomorrow fa'...he said
'Raid?untop wetin?.......i was lost
'Pake call up letters'.....
'Pake wetin? oh you mean fake call up letters'
'yowa!Pake letters and anybody dem catch na folice straight'.....
'Thanks Abu,i go tell boys.......
'No let fifu know say na me tell u o,i no want wahala o'...
'Haba,i no be small boy na'.......

We went our ways.....I had to find Jude by all means

I didn't not go back to mammy ,i began to scout the whole camp  looking for him...I found him eventually in one corner with Uchechi.
'Guy,i don de find u since judaisky'......
'wetin dey Jojo?'...
'come abeg make i see u,Usesi kindly excuse us'....
'Jojo,u funny ,its Uchechi and not Usesi,u like trouble ehn'

I laughed and dragged Jude to the side....
'Judaisky ,yawa don gas o,dem de raid tomorrow o for genje'...i broke the news
'Ehn,who yarn you?.....he asked nervously
'Na Abu d Soja o and you know say na confirm'...
'Na confirm,na confirm, wetin we go do now?......

Most Warri boys i knew usually form hardness but Jude's face turned sad at once.It was only him and i that knew this secret and we had hoped he could scale it.We attended the same University and known tru all my time in school ,i was the only one he informed when the 'Deal' was done in Abuja. He still had an extra semester back in the school but he wanted to use the camp to show his parents that he graduated.

'Guy na to move tomorrow morning, cos the thing go turn to eke level o'....i chipped in
'Eke?omo na wahala be dat o,na remove be dt o'.......

We were on the bush path as early as 4.am,Abu d Soja had informed us that it was going to be an early morning raid before parade and they had the list with them he even went as far as spying the list to see if Jude''s name was there..........it was....

I gave him the bicycle allowance i just collected to help him find his way around Owerri because our camp was located in the bush of Umudi Nwekerre. We met one hunter on his bicycle and offered him some money to take Judaisky far away from the village..
By 5.am i was back in my hostel,i was sure nobody saw us.......i went back to my bed..
15 minutes after, the hostel door burst open....

'Everybodyyyyy,get up and fall in line;!!!!..............Abu d soja's voice

That was the last time i saw Judaisky till today........................

Chance or Destiny....Part 5 Continues....

...
I quickly went to the hostel ,put on my boots and off to the field.....

The turnout was full to the 'brim' though i could not pin point any face,i was 99.99999999999% high. The rain had just stopped, the ground was slippery but the weather was cool

'Jojo, oya now ,we don de wait u,lets warm up'........Seye ran to me
'ok,ok'.........i started jogging after him

I really could not tell how i  finished the warm up,it was as if i was being controlled by the wind,i felt so light.
The referee whistle blasted for the game to be started.I was positioned as a left attacker ,using the 4-3-3 formation,my job was to always try and cut in so as to get a shot with the right leg.

The game was tight ,both teams were not giving out space,i was dashing in and out of spaces trying to create a chance for myself.Seye was a fantastic midfielder,he had full control of the midfield,he tried threading some passes to the front line but the  other team defence stood Strong.

After like 15 mins ,the alcohol started to work,i could not co-ordinate my runs and i was beginning to tire out.

All at once ,Seye intercepted a pass ,looked up and our eyes locked and instantly i knew he wanted me to make the run.
The pass was excellent, through pass of great quality. I made the run, looking over my shoulder, the defence line were looking at the referee for an off side but i was on side.

I began to chase this ball,i chased,i ran with all my strenght because i knew if i got to it i would be one on one with the goal keeper. My mind has already decided what i would do with the ball.....no doubt i would beat him with a 68 dribble.

well.........the only issue was that i did not meet the ball, the ball was right in front of me and i was running with all my strength and the ball moved slowly over the touch line.

Next thing i knew i was face on the ground almost eating the grass.A large hush fell on the crowd then i began to hear the laughter,i quickly formed as if i had been wounded and i needed medical attention.

The rest of the game was a fiasco,i kept falling every two minutes...Seye was mad at me but at that juncture we had exhausted our subs so i could not be substituted.

We lost the match by a lone goal.............

I covered my head with my jersey as i made my way to the hostel,Seye refused to speak to me after he knew i was drunk, the girls were calling my name,i ignored them. The vomiting started when i got to the hostel.

The yabis started.......i had made too much mouth.......i saw Makanaky later in the day...

'Jojo ,omo you fumble gan o,if to say you meet that ball na goal e for be o'
'Omo i speed na'....i tried to defend myself
'that na for your mind o,na slow motion we dey see for outside o'......he replied
'haaaaaa'....dem Chichi nko?........i asked
'dem de wait you for mammy o,dem say u mess up'

I could not show my face at the mammy market for 2 days.............

Chance or Destiny....Part 5 Continues....

.......
Men at work

Abu d Soja was the head of the team at the camp and he was in charge of the daily operation because he was our 'guy',we started to abuse the rules.

We stopped obeying camp rules, mostly the poker players,we refused to sleep during lights out and played late into the night while buying a lot of drinks for Abu and his company. And  of course we were a selected few.

I usually just play poker in the day time with Makanky and the rest of the boys till very late in the night ,go back to my hostel and sleep truout the day and start the cycle all over again.I nearly forgot i had a platoon because,i don't attend parades and did not even know my colleagues .

It got so bad that one day i had woke up late as usual, went to mammy market played a bit of poker, got drunk, went back to the hostel ,slept off the drink and woke up late in the day.I stepped out of the hostel to see some couple of boys playing football ,i quickly asked to join and i was allowed to play.I had a nice game that one of the guys came to meet me.

'Guy,you de play ball o'
'Thanks pally'....
'which platoon you dey now?'...he asked me
'Platoon 7 na'.....
'Platoon 7 ke?u sure?....he looked at me unsure.
'yes now'...i answered confidently'
'Who be your platoon leader?'....
'i no sabi him name'.....i lied
'omo na wa o,na platoon 7 i dey and i no sabi u o and na me be the football captain,my name na Seye'.....
'ehn ehn, meself no sabi u o,call me Jojo.......i went defensive.
'Anyway,we get match tommorrow  and i would like you to play'
'no wahala now,i go show'

The game was to start for 4pm ,Seye had been looking for me all over the camp by the time he found me at the mammy market at 3pm ,i was already drunk. He did not notice so i told him i would go and dress up and meet him on the field.I had won some money playing poker so i was surrounded by some group of fine girls from Imo state University and when u mix alcohol and babes what you get is a man that brags so i stupidly opened my mouth.

'Omo,make una come watch my game o,i be ballerrrrrrrrrr o'.......i started boasting
'oh really,ok we shall all come to support you'....said Chichi
'Come all of you,and see Pele at work'........

I should have kept shut.......

Chance or Destiny...Part 5 Continues.....

'Dagbo man,na akpu you dey first fire'......He said

'Maka,na here they throway you too..hahahahha'...i joked with him...

Talking about Dagbo made me remember my landlord,Alhaji......

We gisted into the night with a couple of our school mates too....Makanaky and i had not really seen much after that incident and it was a relief to talk about it in a lighter mood.We laughed at catching Bro Sola red handed.

'Omo,na low profile i dey for here o''............Makanaky said
'e good like that o,school life don end o'........i retorted
'na so,na make person serve finish waka......

We gisted a while and in his gist i got to know that he was the number for the whole Ilorin before he left school but he still insisted that he was there on a very low profile,he did not want any trouble and luckily for him, nobody from his fraternity  was posted here so no one could point him out.

Aftere a long talk,we all retired for the night.....

The bugle woke us up early the next day for the early morning parade ,as i was rushing to the field with rest of my colleagues,i told myself i could not cope with this early morning drills o ,i must find a way around it.

We were all divided into platoons and i was to join platoon 7 which i did....for the first and very last time...lol

Throughout my stay at the camp i did not get to do any more drills.......i became a truant

I wake up anytime i like, most times with hang over,go to mammy market, play poker, eat and drink with the soldiers,go back to the hostel and sleep....and that was how my days flew by....

The camp commandant got to know that some people were not attending parades,so one day he decided to conduct the parade himself and made sure all the exits were blocked.

I had a very rough night ,my head was banging ,i could barely run but i had to because i could see the angry face of the commandant as he separated all the late comers and put a soldier in charge,..
he instructed the soldier to make sure we completed 100 frog jumps.....

No Way!!!!....i would not survive even 5 frog jumps,my head was 6 times its size, the headache was banging...

I saw the soldier moving toward us menacingly ,as soon as he got close,i recognised him,.....he was among the soldiers i drank with the night before....

'My priend ,oga catch u too?....he asked me
'Yes o,that yesterday drink too much.....abeg help me if i do any frog jump i fit die o......
'no worry aboki......when i gip u sign ,just de waka dey go,no look back o,wayo......
'ok ,ok........i was so glad

The soldier made sure the CC was not paying any attention,he quickly gave me the sign to move.

I did not hesitate,in 10 seconds i disappeared into the crowd...

And that was how i met 'ABU THE SOJA'.........

Chance or Destiny...Part 5 Continues.....

.....we hit it squarely....travelling at 90km/hr..it was thrown high in the air as it made a howling yelp,it hit the side of the cab and landed with a sickening thud..

The impact threw the cab into a spin ,the driver struggled to steady the car,it veered off the road towards the forest .....it hit a boulder and spun straight back into the road coming to a rest parallel to the road.

'Jesusssssssssssssssssssssssss'...screamed almost everybody in the cab. They were all woken up by the noise of the impact and some were tossed about.I held the back of the driver seat to stop myself from being tossed about in the car.
'Na person ? or animal, what did we hit?.....questions were flaying..

I was not really scared maybe because i saw the animal before we hit it so i was  ready.

We looked back and saw the animal still thrashing on the dirt road..We could not identify the animal but i had a gut feeling it was not a herbivorous animal more of carnivorous,i saw a flash of its canine before it was hit.
'Driver ,go carry the animal now,na correct bush meat be that'.....one of the passengers spoke with anticipated gaiety

The driver did not say a word ,he did not even bother to get down from the car to check the damage. He engaged the gear straightened the wheel and zoomed off.

Now no one could sleep again ,everyone started talking at the same time,it was raucous .

I still observed that the driver did not make a single sound,i had a feeling he was not seeing the incident from the point of view of the rest of us.

'This guy harsh o,see as we miss better meat'....someone chipped in a pithy comment.

15 mins later, everything became quiet again....

in a quiet tone i asked the driver....'Oga hw far?i no say you get reason wey u no stop'

'Dem dey take animals rob,if u go down to go carry am na the end be that iwotago?..he answered nonchalantly.

'oh ok ,i see...how many more hours before we reach camp?.....

'about an hour...

One hour later we got to camp,i alighted with my new corper friend Segun thanked the driver profusely. We had made it shortly an hour before midnight.

The camp was already buzzing with graduates,it was like a grand reunion for friends and foes and a feeling of  'joie de vivre' was in the air.

Segun and I made our way to the hall for registration and all the other official matters. Two hours later we were all done but tired,we proceeded to mammy market to get something to eat.
I had just received my order of Akpu and vegetable soup when  a hand grabbed my shoulders.

'Jojo Natty,late comer!!'.......said the voice

I knew that voice no doubt.

'Makanaky baba!.....................................

Tuesday 14 October 2014

Chance or Destiny ..Part 5 continues.......

......The beam lights from the old Peugeot 504 cut through the blanket of the darkness like a hot knife cuts through butter,it was so dark that as soon as the cab passed,it was enveloped.

It seemed the jungle all about us were  fraternising ,it was an all powerfully choking inundating darkness, the chirps of the crickets were distinguishable, the tall trees swayed to the left and right as if there were dancing to a symphony tune that was being orchestrated by our passage.Surprisingly the road was not all that bad though it was a dirt road.Clouds of dust gathered behind us as the cab sped away, the dust seemed to be seducing the darknes cos it all seemed entwined.

I felt small in a colossal universe, felt like i was dropped in the middle of an ocean.I had actually toured a lot of states in Nigeria but mostly the big cities but here was i, a Lagos boy, being shown the reality of the rural areas.

Questioning the driver ,i was told that this was the best road to take and that it will save us a whole hour better than taking the high road. There was dead silence in the cab, seemed every one was occupied with their thoughts. The other corper was asleep. If that day was not the last day to report to camp i would have gone to sleep in Owerri then set out the following day.

I saw a small flicker of lamp in the horizon,it got bolder as we approached,i could not fathom any living being in this thick forest .
'Driver wetin be dat light?...... i asked

My voice sounded like a Cathedral church bell in the silence.

'bros,na hunter o,iwotago?'.....he replied

We got close to him and passed him and i was taken back when i saw that the hunter had the lamp fixed on his hat.I only saw that in home videos.I prayed silently that the cab would not break down in this thick forest. We began to pass some little settlements ,though there was no electricity, one could make out the little lamp lights.I began to see the silhouettes of large buildings.

'why dem de build these kind houses for inside bush'...i broke the silence again.

'Na our people wey dey obodo Lagos o,the civil war don teach them lesson to always have a house in the village,iwotago?'...................he replied me,seemed he could not complete a sentence without saying 'iwotago'.From my small understanding of the ibo language ,i know that means 'you understand?'

'hmmmm'.......the reality of the civil war hit me at once,it must have been very difficult for the ibos during the war.One united Nigeria came at a very high cost.

Here was i for the very first time in a community in Nigeria, years after independence and i could not see a single high tension pole or wire to show that almighty NEPA had plans for them ,yet the Elites of the area tried to out do themselves with who had the biggest mansion in the village.I shook my head at the impiety and the vanity of theses people.

We travelled in silence for some minutes, the driver was on a steady speed,i began to relax too and even dozed off a couple of times.

The Cab sped through a bad spot on the road, the car bounced up ,this woke me up and sleep was murdered.

'Well done Oga'.....i said to the driver, trying to encourage him  and at the same time to find out if he was awake.
'Thank you'.....he answered sharply....as if he knew my intent.......Ope o! no iwotago this time.

The driver and i saw it at the same time,......he battled with the brakes but the speed was too much,he slammed on it for some seconds and knew he could not make the the braking distance,he had no choice ,he floored the pedal hoping that more speed will supersede any torque...

They were too bright eyes ,the beam of the light caught it  ,it stood still in the middle of the road as if transfixed by the engulfing beam.it looked indecisive, whether to run or not but i guessed curiosity took over and fate decided the rest...

it was too late....................................for  all of us.....

Friday 10 October 2014

Chance or Destiny...Part 5 Continues.......

.....3 years after was time for NYSC.

I had been posted to Imo state and required to hit the camp base in Umudi.I left Ilorin for Lagos because i still had to get some money.Way back then there was no GSM and internet was still fresh meaning i had to make the journey to Lagos ,get some money,do small shopping and head out to Imo state.
At the back of my mind i was going to camp to have a really really nice time,no dulling o!...

I got to the park that very morning after i had raided all the money at home,my parents of course did not know how far Imo state was so it was easy to bargain on the high side...

I was the second person in the Hiace bus so i quickly arranged myself in the front seat ,did not want to be cramped up at the back seats besides i like gisting with drivers if am going on a long trip,it usually helped them to stay awake while driving...

The bus stopped at Onitsha and transferred us into another bus,a rickety bus. I knew that bus would not get to Owerri....It didn't......

It broke down mid way and i had to learn emergency ibo language because it was getting dark and i had to get to camp before mid night.I asked for directions,i took a bike to a particular junction and by now it was very dark. Some cabs were lined up and occasionally a bike came along,i could only see a small bush path wide enough for a car.I figured the villagers made the paths themselves.
I thought getting on a bike thru the bush path would be faster,i called a bike man.

'Oga no try am o'.....one of the cab drivers warned me.
'huh,why?'.......
'people dey miss for hia o,e better make you wait ,if we see another corper i go drop u'........
'Oga ,thank you o'.....i thanked him

It sounded reasonable to me,come to think of it the bike man looked like a ritualist true true.

Minutes after another corper came along and we started gisting while we waited for the cab to fill up...

Soon it got filled up and the driver started the cab,his headlights lit up the bush path and the cab snaked through the bushes.......

we were on our way.............

Chance or Destiny...Part 5 Continues.......

...Few minutes later,Bro Sola came out of his room to meet Makanaky and i sitting on the floor of the corridor .He was still sweating.
Makanaky was bleeding,he held an hankerchief to his wound,he was going to surive after all.

'Bro jo jo jo jojo'......Bro Sola stammered my name..
'Hw u dey o ,bro Sola?...i turned to address him
'Its no no no no not wha wha wha what yo yo yo you think o'......by now his lips were quivering.
'Bro Sola,we dont have time to waste ,my friend here needs to hide here till evening ,pls help us,tell  that sister to help us wash the blood of his clothes, oya,Maka remove your top'....i helped Makanaky with his top
'Ok ok,hope all is well'........Bro Sola was nodding vigourously, obviously relieved that i had trivalised what i saw and also he could sense the urgency in my voice.

'its a matter of life and death'......i said
'thank you bro'.....Makanaky was being polite

I knew he was shaken but still managed to look calm,i could see the gash on his shoulder where he had been stabbed.
''Doki,u have something to clean this wounds with?.....
''oh yes,pls let him come and sit inside'.....Sister Tola pls help get hot water'.....bro Sola sprung into action.

I was relieved ,at least Bro Sola the Doki was quick to get back to his professional self,A 500 levels Medico should be able to abort pregnancies (joking o..lol) talk less of a stab wound....

30 minutes later ,Makanaky wounds had been cleaned up,his clothes washed ,some drugs purchased for him and Sister Tola shyly asked if she could make food for us.I told her i was not hungry and will soon start to leave because i was still going to  Tanke,a bit of a distance and that all i needed was for them to keep Makanaky till it gets dark ,so he could leave under the blanket of the night.

That done,i was still able to get a cab and all the way to my house, i kept ruminating on the day's event and the what if''s
What if i had not gone outside the SUB to smoke my last cigar?
What if we were still playing poker in the SUB?
What if i had not stayed back to help Makanaky?

I smiled slightly as i recalled the last if......

What if Bro Sola had remembered to lock his door?........

I had to stop going to mini campus for games,i had enough players in my vincinity maybe i would just stick to playing at home.I had a lot to think about

I got down from the cab when i got to Tanke, crossed the road and strolled to my house,i met my landlord ,Alhaji, outside taking fresh air,he sat outside with his fat stomach like the rock of Gibraltar.I greeted him and we chatted for a while.
Alhaji was the onile(moderator) of our poker games.Seemed he enjoyed it especially the free odeku(big stout) anytime he moderates besides he was the one that usually cordinates side betting. He was a dagbo man!

'Your boys no come play cards today?'...he asked

'Dem go show tomorrow'......

I bade him good night and went to my room,my room mate was already asleep,i removed my blood stained top and crashed on the bed..I hoped my room mate wouldn't snore that night cos i was dog tired, tomorrow was another day.

Makanaky owed me his life, well  i never  knew he would pay back 3 years after.........

Chance or Destiny..Part 5 continues...

...No answer..

I knocked again.......no answer..but i heard some kind of scrappy movement...

Really don't know what prompted me to open the door, maybe because i still had the thought of danger all around me,especially with Makanaky breathing down my neck.

I grabbed the handle and turned it,the door swung open...i popped my head around the door ,i could not risk putting myself in danger again.

Then i saw them..........

The girl was on top of Bro Sola and grinding very hard with her boobs bouncing up and down, her eyes were closed and her scarfed head thrown backwards as Bro Sola was grabbing and squeezing her breasts, both of them sweating like bakery workers yet the fan was on.A pack of condoms  and black bra  laid on the carpet. The room was dimly lit but the light from my open door poured into the room.

As i opened the door,Bro Sola jerked up and shifted the girl off him, they apparently forgot to close the door in the heat of the moment and never heard me knock.

It was only for seconds....but i took this all in with my mouth agape......

I quickly moved back into the corridor.

'He no dey?......Makanaky asked me...

'He dey, make we wait for am for this  corridor,we no fit go outside'

'Make we enter now?.....he asked nervously, searching my face for answers

'the guy get visitor'......

'ehn ehn'......he cocked his head to one side questioningly..

'we wait here'.....'....i stared at him stubbornly....

I couldn't tell him what i saw because i had  already told him that Bro Sola was the leader of their christain fellowship.

Really felt like smoking ,this was too much for me to process.

na wa o....Bro Solaaaaaaaa....i thought to myself.....

Who am i to judge? we all have our short comings even though it was the height of hypocrisy .Bro Sola with a christain sister.I guessed they got tired of praying...lol

Well, all things work out for good ,now i won't need to try and convince him to help cos us am so very sure he would be eager to sweep this under the carpet and would give his right hand to help out, my cousin and i would have a laugh over this one day,.......

I smiled evilly.................so Bro Sola sef dey shine kongo?............

Chance or Destiny......Part 5......Starting

.
......As we moved through the myriads of the closely built houses in the agbo oba area behind the campus,i began to feel at ease but kept on thinking if what happened was sheer luck or supernatural powers. At this rate it would be difficult to separate and am sure Makanaky will choose the former anyway so no point asking.

''Jojo abeg slow down,i don tire''....Makanaky slowed down to a stop.

'' guy, abeg try small,we go soon rest''....i walked up to him and raised him up and we started jogging
I knew we were out of danger because no one was actually chasing us

It all remained to find where i would hide Makany for a while till the heat blows off at least for the day....
My memory started sorting to pick the surest person around.

I remembered  Bro Sola (a fellowship brother )who was a medico student who i also knew through my cousin a medical student too. From my mental map,we were like few houses to his place.

'That would be a good place to hide Makanaky for a while' i thought to myself...the last place anybody will look for him ,at least for now.The only issue now is to be lucky enough to meet him at home because of the tedious schedule of medical students and also how to convince him to help.
Anyways ,it was a long shot but better than nothing ,he was the only hope.

''Maka, try small we don nearly reach where we dey go'...i encouraged Makanaky because i noticed he was running out of breath.

I had already sighted Bro Sola bungalow and i heaved a sigh of relief.

I met  two local women by the entrance of the building ,i saw them raise their eyebrows as they noticed the blood stains on Makanaky top.

'eku joko ,ejor se bro Sola wan nile?'...i quickly greeted them and asked if bro sola was in

'enle o,se kosi?......one of them replied asking if anything was the matter, and the same time systematically blocking our entrance.

'kosi o,o jabo sinu gutter ni'.....i answered and lied that Makanaky fell into the gutter and wounded himself.

That seemed to convince them a bit.
'Sola wa nu ile '.....the woman replied and she moved out of the way.

We entered the building and straight to Bro Sola room..
'wait for here'....i told Makanaky.....i did not want Bro Sola to be confronted by a blood soaked person.I could not predict his reaction,am not a squeamish person but i can't say the same for other people.

I held my breath and knocked...........
